Michael Cox is a professional photographer, telescope / observatory technician, and astronomer based in Tucson, Arizona. He has a very technical based background including 6 years in the Air Force as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician, over 25 years of experience in the chemical and digital based darkrooms, 4 years of large (24”+ diameter) research-grade telescope operation for Steward Observatory on Mt Lemmon as well as the Kitt Peak Visitor Center.
Michael specializes in night sky and astrophotography, but will often find his curiosity peaked by various subjects and avenues of the photographic field. Some of his past projects include: photographs of meteorites as chemical platinotypes that include a combination of platinum, palladium, and iridium in their emulsion; digital images of deep sky objects, stacking hundreds or even thousands of individual exposures; time-lapsing interesting events such as Total Solar Eclipses (2017, 2019, 2024) and the Aurora Borealis in Iceland (2016).
